This cache is a green ammo can hidden near Snow Valley Peak. The hike to this cache is approximately 11 miles round trip. The elevation gain from the Spooner Lake parking area to the cache is 2120 feet. The last mile to the cache offers incredible views of Lake Tahoe, and once you reach the peak, you can view the entire lake. The Washoe Valley and Carson Valley can also be seen once you reach the peak.
Start your hike from the Spooner Lake parking area. Directions: from US Hwy 50, turn north onto Nevada State Hwy 28. The Spooner Lake parking area is approximately half a mile. There may be a fee to park in this area during peak seasons.
From the Spooner Lake parking area, follow the North Canyon Trail approximately 4 miles. You will find the turnoff to Snow Valley Peak just before you reach 4 miles. Follow the unpaved road to Snow Valley Peak. Easiest way in to the cache is to hike above the cache (east of the cache area) and then walk down to the cache area.
You may be able to reach the cache year round via this route if you use snowshoes during the snowy months. (Not advised for beginners.)
If you use the above route, make sure to stop by el Jim’s GCPJAT Great Flume Trail WebCam either before or after you find Souvenir Stash - Lake Tahoe.
Alternate route: This cache can also be reached via the Tahoe Rim Trail when weather permits.
