Geocache Description:

The Tour of Lantzville Geocache will take you to various places in the picturesque seaside community of Lantzville.

Once known only as part of Nanoose, Lantzville began as a coal mining settlement in the 1800s. In 1920, an American company bought the mine and property and the town was renamed in honour of one of the company’s directors, Mr. Fraser Harry Lantz.

Lantzville has had a number of settler type families who have been immortalized through local names of streets, waterways and landmarks. As the coal seams ran low, Lantzville entered another era whereby it became a desirable residential community and summer cottage area. Today, Lantzville is known for its small community charm and the residents feel very strongly in ensuring that it remains that way. Lantzville is a place where neighbours care about neighbours and a place where if you pass someone on the street you are greeted with a friendly 'hello' regardless of whether you're a known resident or just visiting.

Lantzville remained a suburb of the city of Nanaimo until becoming the 155th municipality of British Columbia on June 25th, 2003. The present population of Lantzville is 3,807.
