After initially placing this cache and calling it "Slate Canyon
Overlook", w/ my dog contacted me and told me of the legend
of Mother Luna. I read the article he sent me and couldn't wait to
get out and see Mother Luna for myself. Sure enough...as soon as I
was in the right place...there she was! All these years living in
Provo and I had no idea she was right there the whole time!
To learn about this legend, read the following articles from the
Daily Herald:
This location has been calling for a cache for some time now.
Ever since moving to south Provo, I've been looking up at these
cliffs and wondering how I could get up there to place a cache.
Last Fall I found
"MAPLE FLATS Cache" and discovered there was actually a
reasonably "easy" way to get there.

To access this cache, follow the route to
"MAPLE FLATS Cache". Continue South along the high ridge,
following "game trails" through the scrubs until you can't go any
further. The recommended route is approximately 3.75 miles one way.
I would NOT recommend attempting this cache from Slate Canyon. The
terrain is very steep and dangerous. I've made the climb up the
Western slope, which can be tricky and a bit dangerous if you don't
plan your route carefully. Once again, I wouldn't recommend it.
Be sure to keep your eyes open for wildlife. When placing this
cache I saw cougar tracks, moose tracks, and wild turkey tracks in
the snow. A bear has also been spotted in the area. Enjoy the
incredible 360 degree view from the cache site and be careful near
the cliff edges. It is truly an amazing spot.
The cache is a small, flat tupperware container with some
outdoor-related doodads. It may be able to accommodate very small
travel bugs.
