The Ropes Creek railway line from St Mary's to Ropes Creek, was
built during the war years and has been out of service for
certainly as long as we can remember. Today all that remains of the
line is a few derelict pieces of rusting and crumbling
infastructure.
It's frustrating because much of this interesting relic railway
now lies within the ADI site (A tragic story in itself) and has
recently been totally fenced off to the public. However some pieces
remain accessible, such as Dunheved Railway Station which is the
site of our cache. For the rest I can only offer a link to some
pictures and written info on the other stations and junctions along
the line.
Checkout This great website for some great photography
of other parts of the Ropes Creek railway line.
For a bit more info and an update on progress with the ADI site
visit here. Take a drive around the perimeter of the ADI
site and you will see plenty of the wildlife described. Especially
the Emus and Kangaroos.
