Come and take a hike up Myburgh's Waterfall Ravine, a gorgeous forested ravine similar to Skeleton Gorge.
This is a great summer hike, as it is largely in shade, and Red Disas abound (apparently).
It can get a bit wet in winter.
From Valley Road in Hout Bay, turn up Garron road, and then park at:
S 34°00.575
E018° 22.745
Head back a few meters along the road, and head up the clearly marked "Footpath" - do not blunder through the very faint so called path closer to the parking like we did.
After a short uphill bit, turn right at the obvious path. After a couple of minutes, you will reach a beautiful indigenous forest at the start of the ravine. You may head up the path just on the forest border, or head slightly into the forest and then turn up the fainter path.
We attempted to follow Mike Lundy's instructions, and somehow ended up on a precarious cliff face on the butress to the left of the ravine, nearly at the top of the mountain, so had to come all the way down, and head back up the ravine.
When heading up the ravine, stick generally to the left side. there should be a rough path most of the time. After 15 minutes, you will reach the bottom of a waterfall. (This was dried out when i placed the cache)
Here you will need to head up to the left, and do some minor rock scrambling up an obvious path to get above the waterfall. Then, take the path leading back down to the top of the waterfall, to get into the ravine again.
From here you need to boulder hop the rest of the way, until just after the narrowest part of the ravine.
On the left will be the second waterfall. If it is dry enough, you can climb up the cascades, taking care not to slip, or alternately, bypass this via the fairly tricky path on the right.
Head up to the top of the mountain, and take the path leading left to the spectacular rock jutting off the cliff, on which the cache is hidden. It might take some skill to get up onto the rock to find cache.
Note: For a lengthy walk of about 6 hours, this cache can be combined in a round trip with the following caches:
Hout Bay Corner, Judas Cave, Judas Peak.
This round trip is known as Suikerbossie Circuit.
Note: First finders reading was about 20m away.
