Waterway to Wombridge Traditional Cache

Middle Pool and old engine house, Trench, Shropshire This view was taken from the embankment of the ex-LNWR Coalport branch railway. In the foreground is Middle Pool, popular with coarse anglers, and on the skyline the engine house from which the Trench Inclined Plane had received its power. The embankment was later removed and Middle Pool became connected with its neighbour Valley Pool. There were two pools during the 50's & 60's before the old railway line was removed. Later the area was built upon with the upper valley pool and the old middle pool becoming one called Middle Pool The pool is surrounded by housing and roads but it has a wide mix of wild life with swans,canadian geese,coots, ducks and other water birds too. Swallow, house martins, chiff chaff, and other summer visiting birds as well as damsel flies and dragon flys. Thw trees around the pool are mostly birch, goese,ash,and alder. The pool is stocked with fresh water fish and is fishable all year round with a large head of pike, carp, bream and roach too. Follow the gravel track as you pass the locked gate and walk around what used to be the valley pool passing under the ash trees follow the gravel path as it swings around the top narrower end of the pool, you will notice the storm drain at the top end which gives you a chance to overlook the beauty of this pool as from here you can look down the length of the pool. Moving on you continue again following the gravel path around and walk through the trees and bushes on both sides whilst on the grass side you will find ox-eyes daisy's, herb robert and many other wild flowers Look out for rabbits and the odd fox too.
