Geocache Description:

Given all the burning taking place around the area I thought it about time this cache had a major change. The cache should now withstand major fires with ease. We now have a new and more interesting GZ and it is no longer a totaly "driveby" multi. In winter it can be a bit muddy in parts so be prepared. You need a Torch & this info. Those who found the original may refind as GZ has changed substantially.

In 1858 Patrick Geraghty, Michael O'Shannassy, Joseph Walsh, William McCrae and James McEvoy (AKA Yankee Jim) set of from the police depot in Dandenong with the intention of discovering gold in the Yarra Valley and discover gold they did. By 1879 the Reefton / McMahon's Creek gold field had over 1700 workers + families. The work was tough and hard and the "partying" was just as "full on". Back then the Reefton hotel was at Reefton but was later shifted to McMahon's Creek - it is said to have been the venue for many a colourful game of cards where fortunes were lost and gained.
Yankee Jim is said to have made and squandered his fortune twice and died destitute.

Location one has good 2WD access to very close by. At the posted location you will find yourself on a track at the entrance to the Yankee Jim Mine.

Get your torch and head on in. As you go count the number of large side tunnels. The results of your answer will take you to GZ.

If 1 tunnel S819 E298
If 2 tunnels S832 E261
If 3 tunnels S717 E050

All 3 locations have mineing related items nearby but only the right one has the cache. Take due care when searching.

GZ is at S37.40.___ E145.52.___ (Yes no maths!)

AS YOU WALK THROUGH THE BUSH LOOK CAREFULLY FOR SHAFTS (I havn't seen any but they could be there).

When you get to waypoint 2 you will find there is no GPS reception for the remainder of the trip and you will need your torch. On the trip put your geocaching instinct to use in order to find the cache. The cache is a 1 litre Sistema container. The clue will help if your having problems.
