Geocache Description:

This is a small cache located in West Williamsfield Cemetary.

This cache was created and named in the memory of the first ancestor in my family to settle in Ashtabula County, Ohio. You will find his tombstone very close to the cache location.

The history of Dr. Luther Spellman:

Dr. Luther Spelman (Spellman) was born in West Granville, Massachusetts on July 27,1779. At a young age Luther studied medicine under Dr. Harvey of Granville, Massachusetts. When he turned 22 years old he moved on to Morristown, New Jersey where he began to practice medicine on his own. It was in Morristown that he met Miss Ana Vail who he would eventually marry on Feburary 22, 1804. After eight years of residing in Morristown, Dr. Luther and his wife moved to the state of Ohio. The Spelman family (Luther, Ana, and their eleven children) moved around the state until in 1823 when they settled in Wayne, Ohio. Dr. Luther immediately became the consulting physician for all the surrounding counties and in 1832 he was made Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. Dr. Spelman remained one of the most prominent men in the county until his passing on September 3, 1863.

All of the information about Dr. Luther Spelman was published in the Spelman Family Genealogy book that was created for Laura "Spellman" Rockefeller (The wife of John D. Rockefeller).
