Esta multicache vai levá-lo a percorrer alguns dos locais menos
conhecidos da cidade do Porto. Tendo como tema a água vai visitar
algumas das fontes da freguesia de Miragaia e terminar num dos
miradouros mais esquecidos desta cidade.

This multicache will take you to some of the less known places in
the city of Porto. Having as subject the water you will visit some
of the fountains in the Miragaia parish and finish your trip on one
of the most forgotten terraces of the city.
Chafariz das
Virtudes
[Por] Em
1619 a Câmara mandou levantar a Fonte do Rio Frio, considerando-a a
mais importante que a cidade tinha, para o seu acesso mandou
construir uma calçada. Passando a ser conhecidos como fonte e
calçada das Virtudes, ao
que parece pelas curas medicinais das águas da fonte. Plantou-se
relva na encosta e do lado direito da descida colocou-se bancos.
Passou a ser o lugar de passeio predilecto dos portuenses de à
trezentos anos.
Segundo o Padre
Manuel Pereira de Novais, este chafariz foi delineado por Pantaleão
de Seabra e Sousa, fidalgo da Casa Real e Regedor da
cidade.
Composto por um
alto frontão ladeado de pirâmides, termina num segmento de arco
cortado pelas armas reais, com cinco escudetes e sete castelos. As
armas e a inscrição tem dois castelos, em meio relevo, divididos
por um nicho que se encontra actualmente vazio, mas onde parece ter
existido uma imagem da Virgem, em pedra, conhecida como Senhora das
Virtudes. O conjunto representava as armas da cidade. A água saia
por duas carrancas gigantescas lavradas em pedra, para dois
profundos tanques que ladeavam o chafariz.

1619 the Town Hall ordered the construction of the Rio Frio
Fountain, considering it to be the most important of the city in
those days, to reach it a new road was commissioned. Becoming known
as fountain and Virtudes (Virtues) road, that was, it seems for the
medicinal qualities of the water. Grass was planted on the hillside
and on the right side of the descent some benches were placed. It
became one of the most popular walks for the city folks from three
hundred years ago.
According to Father Manuel Pereira de Novais, this fountain was
drawn by Pantaleão de Seabra e Sousa, nobleman of the Royal House
and Regent of the city.
Made up of a
high fronton, flanked by pyramids, it ends on a segment of an arch
cut by the royal coat of arms, in an half-relief, divided by a now
empty niche that used to hold the stone image of the Virgin, known
as Lady of Virtues. The ensemble represented the city coat of arms.
The water poured out of two stone carved gigantic frowns into two
deep tanks that flanked the fountain.
Chafariz da
Colher
[Por] Considerada uma das fontes mais antigas do Porto, o
Chafariz da Colher, composto de uma única bica, foi construído em
granito no ano de 1491, obtendo este nome em virtude de ter sido
pago com uma parte dum imposto, chamado também de "colher",
aplicado aos géneros alimentícios que entravam na
cidade.
Reconstruído em
1629, necessitou de nova intervenção em 1940, estando situada num
sítio escondido da Rua de Miragaia, a sua água foi na altura
considerada uma das melhores da cidade.

Considered to be one of the oldest fountains in the city, the
Chafariz da Colher (The Spoon Fountain), comprising a single
waterspout, was constructed in granite in the year of 1491, getting
this name in virtue to have been paid with part of a tax, also
called "spoon", applied to the food provisions that entered in the
city.
Reconstructed in
1629, it needed new intervention in 1940, being situated in one
hidden place of Miragaia street, at the time its water was believed
to be one of the best in the city.

Para encontrar a cache final vai visitar duas caches virtuais onde
terá que reunir alguns dados para calcular as coordenadas
necessárias.
A primeira cache
virtual corresponde a uma visita à Fonte das Virtudes (as
coordenadas fornecidas são desta fonte).
Pode estacionar o seu carro aqui.
Uma vez em
frente à fonte, olhe para as duas janelas com grades de ferro no
muro à direita. Conte o número de barras verticais, esse vai ser o
vosso X.
Depois de
executar esta tarefa desça as escadas à esquerda da fonte e vá
pelas vielas de Miragaia até encontrar o local da segunda cache
virtual, a Fonte da Colher. As coordenadas desta fonte são as
seguintes:

Quando lá
chegar, sente-se no banco de pedra e descanse um pouco. Vai reparar
que no lado direito da fonte existem uns degraus que vão até à
água, conte-os para obter o Y.
Para efeitos de
controlo, o X e o Y são números pares.
Na posse destes
elementos substitua na equação das coordenadas finais, cada letra
pelo seu valor correspondente e cada expressão dentro de parêntesis
pelo seu resultado.

Uma vez
descoberta a cache vai encontrar no interior do tupperware alguma
informação sobre o local onde está escondida. Aproveite para a ler
enquanto goza a vista.

find the final cache you will visit two virtual caches where you
will gather some data to calculate the needed
coordinates.
Your first
virtual cache is a visit to Chafariz das Virtudes (the coordinates
provided are from this fountain).
You can park your car here.
Once in front of
the fountain look at the two windows with iron bars on the right
side. Count the number of vertical bars, that’s your
X.
After finishing
this task go down the stairs that you see on the left side of the
fountain and go across the narrow streets of Miragaia till you find
the second virtual cache, The Chafariz da Colher. The coordinates
for this fountain are as follows:

After getting
there, sit on the stone bench and take a little rest. You will see
on the right side of the fountain some steps that go until the
water. Count them to get your Y.
For the purpose
of control, the X and the Y are even numbers.
In the ownership
of this data substitute them in the final coordinates equation,
each letter for its corresponding value and each expression inside
of parenthesis for its result.

discovered the cache, you will find inside the tupperware some
information on the place where it’s hidden. Take some time to read

cache é composta por um Tupperware de 1 litro envolto em dois sacos
pretos, como mandam as boas práticas.
O conteúdo
inicial é composto por: logbook, lapiseira, geocoin a caminho de
Colónia, porta chaves, lenços de papel, crachá e porta chaves para
pescoço.
Recomendo que
façam o percurso entre as caches a pé, embora possam utilizar o
vosso carro. Se o fizerem a pé vão ver que não se
arrependem.
Depois de
encontrar a cache podem aproveitar e paragem próxima do carro
eléctrico e dar um passeio até à Foz do Douro.
Espero que
gostem da caçada, tentei juntar lazer, cultura e diversão para
todos.

cache is a 1 liter tupperware wrapped inside two black plastic
bags, as the good practices dictate.
The initial
contents are: logbook, pencil, geocoin that wants to go to Cologne,
key holder, paper handkerchiefs, pin and one
lanyard.
I recommend that
you go by foot between the cache sites, you can use your car, but
you won’t regret if you do it by foot.
After you find
the cache you can go to the nearby tram stop and go for a ride to
Foz do Douro.
