The Plough and Harrow
“This park has active recreation such as walking tracks and cycleways as well as passive facilities such as picnic and barbecue areas.
“It is an excellent example of the family focus and the diversity planned for the Western Sydney Parklands.”
The Plough and Harrow Precinct features:
· two pavilions for large gatherings
· more than 30 picnic shelters, tables and bench seats
· electric barbeques dispersed throughout the area
The parkland received its name in honour of its previous use as a horse riding school and produce store called Plough and Harrow.
Facilities for a café and kiosk have been built around the two original chimneys at the Plough and Harrow homestead.
Other key features of the new parkland include:
· Children’s playground in the centre of the park
· Dams to create a series of wetland areas
· 2.8 km of pedestrian paths
· 2.4 km of shared pedestrian and cycle paths
The Plough & Harrow land was acquired by the NSW Government in the late 1970s for open space purposes and was leased out on an interim basis for residential and agricultural purposes.
The Plough and Harrow Precinct now joins the Equestrian Centre, Blacktown Olympic Park, Eastern Creek Raceway and the Nurragingy Reserve as part of Western Sydney Parklands diverse range of recreational facilities.
