Following on from
Tolkien Tree, apparently the most found cache in Australia and
New Zealand for 2006, here's another Tolkien-themed cache in the
centre of Sydney.
The Royal Botanic Gardens are a surreal place, where a colony of
large, grey bats flap their leathery wings over manicured gardens,
fountains, and pyramids of glass. You are invited to walk on the
grass, smell the flowers, hug the trees and picnic on the lawns.
But be gentle with Treebeard. He's been fenced off, because he's a
rainforest tree, with shallow, buttressed roots that don't like
being walked on. It isn't necessary to climb him to find the cache.
You won't need to leave the paths. In fact, you might have more
luck if you're sitting down.
The Royal Botanic Gardens are free to enter, but are closed at
night. To find out current opening hours, call 61-2-9231 8111 or
visit their website.
