Geocache Description:

Special Events: Parks & Recreation
Good parking and short walk on grass. Last four feet some bushwacking. You are looking for a Lock & Lock container about 4 ½” x 4 ½” x 8”. Cache code JP08 by C. Michael Downs, Naturalist, Raven Run Nature Sanctuary.

Jacobson Park is located at 4001 Athens - Boonesboro Rd, Lexington, KY


It has a 47-acre lake that is open year-round and is popular for sailing, fishing and pedal-boats are available to rent Spring through fall. Pavilions and picnic areas are available for rent. Jacobson Dog Park is located within Jacobson Park. In NOV 2002, Jacobson Dog Park was expanded from 0.9 acres to 3 acres. The new area now includes a tree line providing plenty of shade for hot summer afternoons.


Some special events:
  • Kite Fest - In APR the skies of Jacobson Park are filled with hundreds of kites in the spring on Kite Fest day when they celebrate National Kite Month, which is their first major outdoor event of the season. They have free activities which include face painting, kite making, giant bubbles and special entertainment. Food and beverages are available for purchase throughout the day and families pack lunches and picnic in the park. For more information, call (859)288-2927.

  • Free Friday Flicks - For about five Friday nights in mid-summer you can enjoy a newly released movie in the park, children’s games and a petting zoo for free – Free Friday Flicks at Jacobson Park. Celebrating its 12th anniversary, this family event offers a great evening of entertainment for all ages. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and pack a picnic dinner or purchase concessions from one of the many vendors on-site.   • Family Fun Fish Fest - In about June there is a day of free fishing, youth ages 15 & under can fish in a specially marked section of Jacobson Lake that has been stocked with catfish and bass. In addition to fishing, there are other activities including games, casting lessons and prize giveaways. Free bait is provided for the youth. For additional information, call (859) 288-2927.

  • Camp Kearney - Camp Kearney is a nine day camp at Jacobson Park, which provides Fayette County youth with the opportunity to further their educational and recreational outdoor experiences. Activities planned for Camp Kearney include nature study and projects, camp crafts, hiking, archery, canoeing, boating and many types of games. This camp is for youth ages 6 – 12. On APR 28 2006 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC)approved the transfer of Jacobson Park from the Kentucky-American Water Co. to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG). Ownership of the 386-acre park will be handed over to the LFUCG on JAN 2 2011. The city has been leasing the park from Kentucky-American for use as a recreational facility since 1968. The park includes a reservoir used by the water company and a local golf course.
