Geocache Description:

short hike along the creek

This area is a popular trout fishing area along Slippery Rock Creek. The parking area N41 02.152 W080 06.515 is fairly new. The bridge is newer as well-use to be a one lane bridge. Years past they use to stock the creek from this area-not sure if they still do. As a kid-spent many warm days tubing down the creek into Slippery Rock Campground (we're members there). There use to be a rope swing near the bridge on this side, which I didn't see up anymore. I actually just found out this side of the road belongs to DCNR.

This cache is part of the environmental awareness for Earth Day 4/22/07. When walking through this nature area I found two camp fires. One right on the path less then 10 feet from Slippery Rock Creek and the other toward the center among serveral trees. These are ugly scars on such a beautiful area. Leave no trace principle #5 states we should minimize campfire impacts. This link is for the leave no trace organization and the 7 principles. http://www.lnt.org/programs/lnt7/index.html

This cache is placed with DCNR permssion. The walk to the cache is along the creek and trail which isn't marked but easy to follow without snow present. This is a nature area so please stay on the trail which will lead you right to the cache area. The cache is near the trail on the hill in the normal woodland type hiding spot. It's a small cache no room for a pen/pencil please bring your own. Small trade items will fit. Currently there's a bobber and rubber ducky with the log book. Zoie and I scoped out this spot-hope you all like it as well. Please rehide well as kids tend to party back here.
Update: 7/12/07. there have been 2 sightings of a bear in this area. The nearby campground has his picture up in the office. Looks to be about 1 1/2 yr old about 150-200lbs. Just an FYI as you cache this area.
