DJCreek_Cachers: The lot where this cache was hidden has been bulldozed. They must be getting ready to build something there. Anyway, the cache is no more. We hope you enjoyed finding this one. Visit some of our other caches hidden in the Centerville Historical District.

Geocache Description:

It is not necessary to enter the woods to find cache.

Recommended avenue of approach is off Rt 48 just south of the Christian Scientist Church. Turn next to the "For Sale" sign.

Welcome to “A Walking Tour of Centerville.” These caches are meant to be Park & Walk & Grab & Walk & Grab & Walk & Grab...well you get the idea. Centerville has a large collection of stone buildings, and many of the hides are in the heart of the architectural preservation district. The hides aren't anything special...but the places they take you to (and past!) are notable.

Site of the Frist Surveyor Camp
100 South Main St.

In February, 1796, Aaron Nutt, Benjamin Robbins, and Benjamin Archer arrived at the high point of the land between the two rivers where Centerville now stands. It is thought that they first made camp at this site where the Christian Scientist Church is located. The threat of Indians caused them to move to a more favorable retreat some two miles away (in the general area of Clyo and Alex-Bell Roads). These men were brothers-in-law and veterans of the Revolutionary War with war bounties to pay for land in the territory.
