I've rated the difficulty fairly high mainly because there are only two ways to access this cache either by boat or when the tide is low enough. Watch for slippery or loose rock while exploring.
MYRTLE POINT
Incorporated in B.C. on July 12, 1911 Bloedel, Stewart & Welch Ltd. bought 10,000 acres (4000 hectares) of prime timber at Myrtle Point for $100,000. They constructed a railway camp that operated from 1911-1928 using several logging locomotives.
The 'One Spot', one of the Shay locomotives used at Myrtle Point, is on display at the British Columbia Forest Museum in Duncan. When Myrtle Point finished operations in 1928, the ‘One Spot’ continued its career in Menzies Bay and Great Central Lake, before almost being sold to the Philippines.
You'll see the remains of the old logging dock which now exists as a number of naked wooden pillars pointing out towards Myrtle Rocks.
Access can be either by boat when the weather is appropriate or when the tide is low. Local tide tables are available in numerous places in town. If going when the tide is low enjoy the walk along the beach where you can observe numerous sand dollars, star fish and other wildlife. A good pair of hiking boots should be worn as you might have to cross a number of old oyster shells and the rocks may be slippery. Remember to keep an eye on the incoming tide. There used to be a picnic table on the rocks where you can stop, sit, and enjoy the view, before heading back, but I understand it is either no longer there.
Cache is a small lock and lock with logbook and pencil. A lanyard awaits the FTF.
