This castle and the nearby castle Schallaun are the only castles
build in caves in Austria.
The Puxer Loch was mentioned for the first time in the 12th
century.
The castle was abandoned in the 16th century, but until the 19th
century the buildings, well protected by the roof of the cave,
where in quite good condition.
Than a group of thieves used this castle as headquarter so most of
the buildings where destroyed by the locals to get rid of
these people.
There are still some walls left giving you a quite good
feeling how this castle looked like.
In former times there was a path leading to the neighbor castle
Schallaun just about 200m east of this place in the same
rock.
Now the castle Schallaun is only reachable for climbers.
The cache is hidden in a crevice in the entrance of
the big cave, about 10 meters to the right from the cave book
and about 1,5m above the ground. It is covered by some
stones.
There is no need to remove any bricks from the old castle walls to
find the cache.
Please sign your visit in the logbook, but not on the walls like
many others did before!
To get to the cache you should follow the road from Scheifling
to Murau. Right in front of the second bridge over the river Mur
there is a small road leaving to the right. Garmin says it is
unpaved, but this is not true anymore.

where you can park your car or motorbike.
There is a sign showing you the quite steep path up to the
ruins.
After about 20 Minutes you reach the outside wall.
There is a wooden ladder you have to climb to enter the
castle.
As it could carry my ~100kg it should be save for you as well
;-)
The coordinates in the header are only showing the direction to the
castle.
As there is no signal inside the cave entrances take the spoiler

The cache is a plastic box approximately 12 cm x 12 cm x 8
cm in size and contains a logbook, a pencil and some trading
items.
Das Puxer
Loch und die danebenliegende Burgruine Schallaun sind die einzigen
Höhlenburgen in Österreich.
Das Puxer
Loch wurde erstmals im 12. Jarhundert erwähnt.
Die Burg wurde im 16. Jahrhundert aufgegeben, aber bis in das
19.Jahrhundert waren die Gebäude, durch das Höhlendach gut
geschützt,in einem ziemlich guten Zustand. Dann hat eine
Diebesbande die Höhle als Zufluchtsort genutzt.
Dies war für die lokale Bevölkerung der Anlaß die Burg zu
zerstören um das Diebsgesindel zu vertreiben.
Es sind aber
noch genügend Mauerreste vorhanden um einen recht guten Überblich
über die Burg zu bekommen.
Früher gab es eine Verbindungssteig zur ca. 200 Meter weiter
östlich gelegenen Burg Schallaun.
Heute ist Schallaun nur mehr für Kletterer
erreichbar.
Der Cache
ist in einer Felsspalte in der grossen Eingangshalle der Höhle ca.
10m rechts vom Höhlenbuch in 1.5m Höhe versteckt und mit ein paar
Steinen bedeckt.
Um den Cache zu finden müssen keine Steine aus den Burgmauern
entfernt werden.

Höhlenmauern!
Um zum Cache
zu gelangen folgt die Bundesstraße von Scheiffling in Richtung
Murau.
Unmittelbar vor der 2. Murbrücke zweigt rechts eine Asphaltstraße
ab. Laut Garmin ist diese Straße nicht befestigt, aber das stimmt
nicht mehr.
Nach ca. 1km kommt links eine Parkmöglichkeit

Auf der
anderen Strassenseite steht eine Tafel die den recht steilen Weg
zur Ruine anzeigt. Man benötigt ca 20 Minuten um die Aussenmauer zu
erreichen.
Dort muss man über eine Holzleiter in die Burg klettern.
Da diese Leiter meine ~100kg ohne Probleme ausgehalten hat sollte
es auch für andere Cacher kein Problem bereiten.

Der Cache
ist eine Plastikbox mit ca: 12 cm x 12 cm x 8 cm und beinhaltet ein
Logbuch, einen Bleistift und einige Tauschgegenstände.
