Geocache Description:

I was recently corresponding with another cacher bemoaning my frustration that there seem to be so few areas to bring people to over here on the west side of town(due in part to strict caching policies in some great locations).

Then, yesterday driving home on a hot sticky Saturday afternoon, I saw this new area. I almost didn't stop because I was hot and tired, but in true cacher fashion, I turned around to explore - and was glad I did. On the walk in, I got to see the nearby horses, a variety of birds (including some killdeer who made their presence known loud and clear), deer and a beaver swimming near the cache site.

This appears to be part of the Town of Greece Open Space preservation project (Thank you!) and gives a far different view of the Town than many people's notion of Greece as a strip of malls and plaza's along Ridge Road.

You are looking for an ammo can near the posted coordinates. The walk in is on a mowed trail of sorts and while not difficult, it is longer than a cache and dash.

One word of caution for those who take kids to the location, the first part of the hike borders a horse farm and there is an electric fence along the path for the first few hundred feet of the cache. I didn't check to see if it was on (and I suggest you don't either) but judging from the looks of it, I would say that it likely is.

If you do feel the need to touch it for some crazy reason, my father always warned me to check electric fences using the back of your hand. His reasoning was that you will still get a jolt from the fence, but using the back of your hand prevents you from grabbing hold of the wire when the current causes your muscles to contract. While my father is a wise man, I have generally tried to avoid the practice all together!

Parking Note: Parking for the cache is available in a small lot off Manitou Road in Greece. It is Marked Town of Greece Buttonwood Access

Enjoy!
