Geocache Description:

St Aiden's, Oldina

This is the site of the Anglican Church, Oldina, dedicated to St Aiden, bishop of Lindisfarne (died c.651). This church was officially closed in 1994. Given the number of former churches that have been closed, this is not significant, but what is perhaps significant is that at the time of closure, there had not been a service at that place for over 20 years. In fact there had not been a building there for over 20 years! The church originally was very small, and lay on a block of land of 12 perches (approximately 300 sq metres), surrounded on all sides by roads. An idea of the size of the building can be got from after the building was sold (building only, not land) it was demolished, and made into a small single car garage, with nothing left over!
