Geocache Description:

Located less than 120' from the Gauley Mountain Trail

Tea Creek Wilderness is one of my favorite places on the planet. I ask anyone visiting the area to be extraordinarily considerate to the area and the animals living there. Every time I visit I discover something new and I always find it difficult to leave. It's hard to explain but it is an almost spiritual place for me. So please please please take everything out that you take in and leave no trace of your passing. That way it will be the same the next time someone wants to visit.

I rated the difficulty at 3 because if you park at the Gauley Mountain Trail head or Little Laurel Creek overlook (on the scenic highway), the cache is located 2-3 miles (one way)away. When I returned to the cache on May 12, 2007, it took me an hour to reach it from the scenic highway overlook, and I wasn't in a hurry.

if you follow my route i would rate the difficulty at 4 or 5: i parked at tea creek campground and followed tea creek trail to find elmer's tea creek cache. once i found it and fished for a little while, i continued up tea creek trail to the north face trail before switching back to the right fork trail. i followed the right fork trail to red run trail. red run trail led me to the gauley mountain trail which i followed all the way to the right fork connector trail and the scenic highway. finally, i made it back to tea creek campground via tea creek mountain trail. it was a 15+ mile hike. it took me 12 hours, but i fished on tea creek for a couple hours and dug up some ramps. so, if you decide you are up for it, bring plenty of water with you and don't spend too much time fishing and maybe you'll complete the trek before dark (unlike me). here's where i found my (invaluable) map: (visit link)

if you have trouble downloading the maps from the link, email me. i have the trail maps saved on my computer

Please be advised: If you plan to use the section of Tea Creek trail between Bear Pen trail and the camp at the forks of Tea Creek, you will have to cross the creek nine times (Right Fork once and Tea Creek eight times). Any one of those crossings can be quite the obstacle when the water level is normal, but that stretch of trail should be avoided if the water level is high.
