"That which properly constitutes the life of every man is a profound secret. Yet this is what every one would give most to know, but is himself most backward to impart."
- Henry David Thoreau 1938
We as Geocachers are conditioned to look for what is not readily seen. We seek out what is veiled but sometimes what we seek is so ordinary our minds dismiss it entirely.
During this journey you will seek both what is hidden and also what is hidden in our minds. This cache will bring you on a journey through time, the time and circumstances are still a mystery. In this area you will find yourself amidst stone piles very different from the stonewalls that farmers erected. Who created them and why they were created is still a very active area of discussion for many people.
As we have journeyed on our hikes, these stands of stone may have been merely passed by, dismissed by our minds as the ordinary. In reality they are history waiting to be revealed and heard. What are they, who built them, what were they used for, what do they signify? Was it the Native Indians, early settlers or just someone who was bored? There are no known writings of any stone piles and their significance.
Your task is to (of course find the cache!) but to hopefully open up a discussion, to engage yourselves in your thoughts, who built them and why they may be here. Most importantly on how to preserve them, this mystery, our past.
Unfortunately some stone piles disappear just as quick as they are discovered. Harvested for materialistic needs and dismissed for what they truly are, spirits in stone.
