Cape Fear Adventure - Keg Island Traditional Cache
fraygirls: We're going to archive this cache and make room for super new hides! We have plans to paddle to the island before the weekend to remove any possible geo-remnants from the area.

We've hidden another ammo can on one of those cool little
uninhabited islands in the middle of the Cape Fear River! This time
you'll be visiting Keg Island, so dust off that river-going vessel.
You're going to need it!
Welcome one and all to Keg Island! From the River Road Park you're
a relatively short and easy paddle away from both the island and
the cache. On the west side of the island you'll find a nice, sandy
beach that's just perfect for landing your boat, soaking up the
sun, hunting for shark teeth, etc. As you make your way to this
side of the island, beware the sandy shoals along the northern end
- you could get temporarily stuck here and all of the gulls
standing on the shore will have a great time laughing at you!
Once you hit the beach, you will see that the island has many wide
open areas that practically beg you to do some exploration. There
are lots of nice woodsy areas here - we didn't see any particularly
interesting creatures here (although the frayguy did see a stick
that had an uncanny resemblance to a snake), but we know that they
were probably hiding and watching us as we hid the cache. And be
sure to check the beach for sharks' teeth and other
treasures...when we were here we found a very old and very large
shark tooth. We're talking museum-quality!!
We hope that you, too, make many wonderful discoveries on this
cool island!
