La Rocca della Verruca si trova sulla vetta del monte omonimo, a circa 540m di altezza. Da qui si può ammirare una vista spettacolare della valle dell'Arno.
Verruca Fortress is on the top of mount Verruca, at 540m high. From here you can have a fantastic view of the Arno valley.
La Verruca può essere raggiunta in auto da Vicopisano, prendendo la strada vicino al cimitero; la seconda parte della strada è un pò dissestata ma percorribile guidando con attenzione.
Parcheggiate a N 43°42.499 E 10°32.364 e proseguite a piedi per l'ultimo tratto.
Prima di giungere alla fortezza si noteranno sulla sinistra della strada i ruderi del Monastero di San Michele alla Verruca, che recentemente è stato oggetto di scavi archeologici. Dell'antico complesso monastico benedettino, fondato alla fine del X secolo rimangono solamente le fondamenta dell'abbazia. La chiesa subì gravi danni nel corso della guerra fra Pisa e Firenze (1503) e in seguito venne abbandonata. Attorno al monastero sorgeva un piccolo borgo, del quale gli scavi hanno riportato alla luce tracce di ambienti.
Se avete voglia di camminare, seguite le indicazioni per LA CROCE (altra nostra cache) e proseguite lungo la strada fino alla Verruca.
ATTENZIONE - PER RICUPERARE LA CACHE BISOGNA AVVICINARSI A UN CIGLIO - NON OCCORRE SPORGERSI, BASTA ALLUNGARE LA MANO STANDO IN POSIZIONE SICURA. COMUNQUE FATE BENE ATTENZIONE A DOVE METTETE I PIEDI !!

You can go by car from Vicopisano, you must go on the street near the cemetery; the second part of the street is a bit bad but, if you drive carefully, you can go with your car.
Park at N 43°42.499 E 10°32.364 and go walking for the latest part.
Before reaching the fortress they will be noticed on left of the road the ruins of the Monastery of San Michele to the Verruca, which recently it has been object of archaeological excavations. Of the ancient Benedictine monastic complex, founded to the end of the X century, remain only the foundations of the abbey. The church endured serious damages in the course of the war between Pisa and Florence (1503) and later on it came abandoned. Around the monastery a small village rose, of which the excavations have brought back to the light traces of rooms.
If you like to walk, follow the indications for LA CROCE (another cache we have placed) and go following the street for Verruca fortress.
PAY ATTENTION - TO GET THE CACHE YOU HAVE TO GO NEAR A FALL - YOU DON'T NEED TO LEAN, YOU ONLY HAVE TO EXTEND YOUR HAND TO RECOVER THE CACHE FROM A SAFE POSITION. HOWEVER, PAY ATTENTION WHERE YOU PUT YOUR FEET !!
