This cemetery has had a number of different name, It was first called, "The Cemetery East of Dyersville", then named "Good Hope Cemetery", and now called, "Mt. Hope Cemetery.
In 1853 the land for the cemetery was donated by William Dyer, the father of James Judge Dyer the founder Dyersville, Iowa.
Many of the pioneers of Dyersville are buried here.
The cemetery's fence was damaged beyond repair a few years ago and is in the process of being replaced.
