ruffasgutts4x4: This is another of my caches being continually muggled this time upgrades are the culprit..
Either way I'm over it I hope someone else can make good use of the area. Many thanks for the awesome logs over the years.

Geocache Description:

Could be walked, would be better on a bike!

This Multi Cache will involve the hunter covering a little distance but all within the confines of one reserve.
Nurragingy Reserve is so named to remember a highly reguarded Aboriginal tracker (Nurragingy) and Chief of the South Creek Clan who was hired (as well as Colebee Son of Yarramundi) by Governor Lachlan Macquarie to find a group of so called hostile natives. For their help they were rewarded firstly with half a pound of tobacco, 4 days provisions, half a pint of spirits & a blanket.
On Saturday May 25th 1816 after continued service and fidelity to Government and good behaviour, Nurragingy Alias Creek-Jemmy received an Order of Merit by being presented with a brass gorget (breast plate) with his name inscribed in full.
Nurragingy and Colebee were also promised a grant of 30 acres of land on the South creek between them.
Not far from Richmond Road in the Blacktown suburbs now known as Oakhurst and Colebee is the area of the land grant; This area became known as "Black Town". Governor Macquarie's Native Institution for the education of Aboriginies was moved there from Parramatta in 1823 and a convict was assigned to the project by the name of Robert Lock.
On January 27th 1824 Robert Lock married Maria the daughter of Yarramundi and sister of Colebee. This was the first marriage between Aboriginal and European origins in the history of Australia.
Unfortunately over the next 100 years the land miraculously found its way back into the hands of the Government, but it was later decided to give 5 undeveloped hectares to Blacktown Council to manage on behalf of the community.
These days there are 5 hectares of land just west of Blacktown that are a great place for bushwalking, bird watching or a family BBQ. There is a blacksmith shed with demonstrations, as well as a kiosk both of which are open on weekends.
Nurragingy Reserve still holds a lot of Aboriginal significance.
As if this is not enough Weddings are regularly held here which seems only right given the above history lesson!
On the day I placed the cache a wedding was taking place and I have been to one here a few years back too.
Gates open at 7.00am and close at 5.00pm 7 days a week in winter months, The park is free for entry.
Large parties can have areas reserved for further info contact Blacktown City Council. You will find the entry to Nurragingy Reserve on the north side of the railway overpass on Knox Road, Doonside.
The cache has changed recently due to being muggled again.
Be warned this is a muggle frenzy zone!!!!
