Welcome to John's Island. This 700 acre tract of oak hammock, sand pines, scrub palmettoes, and grassy marshlands was purchased by the state and added to the Tomoka State Park. In the early 30's and 40's the island was used by cattle for grazing and the marshes had there grasses harvested for brooms. In the 50's the land was sub-divided for future development but was called off because this was still in the boonies. The land was finally added to the state park system and has been kept pristine and natural. As you hunt the caches in the area, please be aware of your surroundings. Always wear appropriate clothing, bring plenty of water, and a sturdy walking stick. There is no motor vehicles, camping, or fires allowed in the area. Also no taking of plants or animals is allowed.
This trail will lead you to the edge of the western marshes that surround John's Island. Please be aware of your surrounding at all times and watch out for the wildlife, large and small.
