Lodge Hill Ramble
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
A straightforward cache situated on the top of Lodge Hill - enjoy spectacular views across Somerset.
This is the first cache to be hidden in Castle Cary.
You are looking for a 0.3l plastic lunchbox that has the usual small trinkets for exchange.
The cache is located on the top of Lodge Hill, which is the hill that backs the unspoilt Somerset town of Castle Cary. The path can be approached from either end - I have quoted waypoints for parking at both ends. It is generally a climb up through fields following the public footpaths. It can be muddy after rain - mostly around the gateways where the cattle can gather.
It is worth the climb. From the top the whole of this pretty town can be seen and, on a clear day, views extend across to Glastonbury Tor and the Polden Hills.
On the hill below you and in front of the newly constructed viewpoint you can see the ramparts and earthworks of the 11th century castle that gives the town its name.
