Geocache Description:

This cache is placed in honour of my parents who began their relationship August 23, 1944 with the first letter my father wrote to my mother from Camp Borden as he awaited deployment overseas for the first time.

They continued to write to each other for the next couple of years as my father fought battles in Italy and aided in the liberation of Holland. The letters my mother wrote were destroyed in a fire at Camp Borden after the war, but my mother kept the more than 200 letters my father sent her, in her cedar chest tied with ribbon. It wasn't until their death in 2003 that I was able to read any but the very first letter.

They're absolutely priceless. They paint a fantastic portrait of the times and of my parents as young amorous 20-year olds, with references to movies, books, music, family members, and the daily life of a young soldier in the Second World War.

Two of the photos of them were taken at the top of this ski hill in '46/'47, during one of my father's leaves, early in their relationship, and I've placed this cache near where I imagine it was taken.
