Geocache Description:

In the summer of 1987, after a major rain storm, Salt Creek flooded its banks, devastating this neighborhood. The aftermath of the flood literally changed the map of Addison.

Before the flood of 1987, this was the site of Louis' Restaurant, one of the oldest and most popular establishments in Addison. This location, and the restaurant, had been flooded on a number of occasions. When I was young, one of the things that always fascinated me was the plaques on the walls commemorating the high water marks of previous floods.

In August of 1987, the flood was particularly bad. This major intersection was flooded. Lake St. and Villa Ave./Wood Dale Rd. were shut down for several blocks in each direction. Louis' Restaurant was almost completely under water. There was no rebuilding this time.

FEMA and the village of Addison raised the money to purchase this land for flood control. Addison decided to name the reservoir for icon that had stood here for over 60 years. Since then, the village has turned this into an attractive park with a very nice walking path.

The posted coordinates will take you to a plaque commemorating the former occupant of this corner. To determine the final coordinates:

1. Find the number of the Village of Addison resolution recorded on this marker. Read the numbers after the letter "R" as a four digit number that we'll call NNNN.

2. Find the year that FEMA purchased this land. Call this number AAAA.

3. Find the year that the Louis first became a Village Trustee. Call this number BBBB.

4. AAAA + BBBB = WWWW

The final coordinates are:
N 41 46.397 + NNNN
W 87 55.006 + WWWW

You are looking for a small clear Gladware-type container.
