For as long as I
can remember, we have called this pretty little cove, Surfer Beach.
Apparently, on those rare occasions when the surf is up in
Jamestown, this is were the locals head to hit the waves. Usually
it is a very quiet place, off the tourist track and known to very
few people who are not local. It is a great place to wander the
rocky beach, go fishing, explore tide pools at low tide and beach
comb. The area around the trail is managed as a Conservation Area
by the Conanicut Island Land Trust.
There is a small parking area on Beavertail Road at the head of
the trail to Hull Cove. Though it only holds three or four cars, it
is usually empty ( unless surf is up! ). The trail can be VERY
MUDDY. At times it seems as though you are running a gauntlet of
balance beams to get through. Though it's a great beach for
children to explore, the mud may make the trip tricky. And, I
wouldn't suggest wearing good shoes! The view of the ocean and
across to Brenton Point make the trip well worth the muddy trail.
Now open to everyone......Enjoy!
Congradulations to geohunters99 for the FTF!
