A Geocachers Annual Event Cache #5 Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pattycat: Well folks, I guess it’s that time, time to archive this cache. [:(] I had a super great time and I believe everyone there did as well. If it wasn’t for you that attended and/or helped even in the smallest way, I couldn’t continue to organize these event caches and I’ll continue to organize them for as long as I can take a breath. [:D]

Thanks again to all and I hope to see you, as well as other Geocachers next year, same time (August long weekend) but not necessarily the same place. I will personally send an email out to let you know if the site will change for #6 event cache or not. I will also send an email out earlier than the three months before the time of the event with the info for #6. [:D]

Ciao for now and Happy Geotrails to all, Pattycat [:o)]

Geocache Description:

Here is the info you have all been waiting for on the what, where, when and so on, of this year’s Geocaching Event Cache #5. This info is much the same as last year’s info. I just used cut and paste for some of it.

This year’s event cache (#5) will be held at the same place as last year, Wapiti Lake campground just outside of Cranbrook, B.C. in the East Kootenays. The date is August 4th, 5th, and 6th, which are a Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. This campground is not overly large, in just one area, but it is spread out albeit some of the area is a bit sloped. I like to arrive before the actual date of the event so I can “TRY” to keep as much of the camping area as possible. Last year there was no problem with availability for any type of set up for camping including a fifth wheel trailer and several motor homes. For those that attended the previous year’s event caches at this site, I will of course be situated at my Geocamping home in the same spot (coords to follow for those who have not visited this area). The attendance increases each year so be sure to arrive early if possible to set up your camping site although it is a fair size area.

To locate the area: if you are coming from Cranbrook, turn off the main highway, #3, at approximately 49°24.045N and 115°22.611W. There is a cache “RIGHT” there called “Rosicky Way”, and as of last year’s event cache (2006), there are more caches in the surrounding area. If you are coming from Fernie way, turn off the main highway #3 at approximately 49°24.085N and 115°22.269W and there is a cache “RIGHT” there too called, “The Other Rosicky Way”. You can also make the turn onto the gravel road from Jaffrey which will take you to turns to get to the Geocaching event cache site roads. I will post signs at each turn and may have some balloons tagged onto them as well. Once you are on the secondary highway, (Rosicky road), where you will see farm buildings, make the turn to get to the road to the camping area at approximately 49°23.767N and 115°21.883W. I will be camped at approximately 49°23.125N and 115°21.758W, which are the coords for the event cache site. Once on the gravel road, there are two turns to get to the Geocaching event cache site, one of which (the first turn coming from the Cranbrook side) is best for large campers etc. I will post a sign for larger vehicles for this turn. The gravel road is pretty good however, there are a few wee bumps and jiggles along the way but even large motor homes can make it and did at event caches 3 & 4.

The usual games that will be played are the 50/50 draw and the Geopoker fun and you must be present for the draws if you are the winner. The 50/50 tickets are only one (1) for $.50 or three (3) for a dollar, and each Geopoker hand is $5.00 and of course, the highest hand wins. This will be when most everyone is present which I am thinking will probably be the same day as the potluck lunch/dinner or when all present agree to when these draws and such should take place. Please feel free to post your thoughts on the cache page or email me at pattycat@shaw.ca as input is welcomed.

For something somewhat new but not totally, for those of you who attended the very first Geocachers event cache, you may remember that I created at Geoscav hunt and I believe those that participated enjoyed this game. This year I will again have the Geoscav hunt however, with a wee twist, it will be a timed game (I think). This year the theme will be "Nature" so bring a horde of stuff you think may be on the list. You will need to read up on this topic and perhaps you should bring a book on it too. This is not going to be an easy theme to accomplish but try it; you may surprise yourself by knowing more than you thought you did. I may or may not include a wee list of the items for the Geoscav hunt when I post this on the Geocaching website. I may give you the entire list, I may just give you a clue, or I may just wait and surprise you at the time the game is to start.

In addition, for event caches #3 & 4, there was a continuous cache (Traveling Cache thanks to Chet of Chet & Jane), to find and rehide. This is not timed and I still have the actual container and all the goodies that were last in it from the previous event cache so we will do that again too as I believe all had fun with it. This cache is only for fun and perhaps practice so you won’t be logging it on the Geocaching website.

As usual, there will be a potluck lunch/dinner that more than likely will be on Saturday as it has turned out to be in the previous years I think. When you post a note on the cache page, include what you are bringing for the potluck as well as how many in your party. If this date changes, I will post a note on the cache page as early as possible. This event is for everyone, those of you that are interested in learning about Geocaching, those of you that already know all there is to know about Geocaching and for your kids, grandkids, and great grandkids too. If you bring a dog they must be on a leash most, if not all of the time, and of course, you must clean up after them.

Don’t forget to bring any TBugs and/or Geocoins you would like to let loose to continue their travels as well as just to be “discovered”. I am asking though, that whoever brings any TBugs and Geocoins to the Geocaching event cache, please record the tracking number(s) of each item to give to me so I can email these numbers out to all attendees who actually saw these items. This way there will be a list of the numbers and no one person has to sit down to record them all. (Thanks Mrs. Pirate).

Let me know by email or on the cache page, what day is best for you and yours for the potluck lunch/dinner. I like to try to make everyone happy when it comes to the event caches but I can only do so much.

That is about all for now. I hope to see you there with your imagination, your smile, your Geospirit and bring a friend or two as well; you never know who wants to be a Geocacher. I may add more info on this cache page in the future or I may just spring it on you out there so keep a Geowatch on this page possibly for a surprise too. You never know what I’ll do!

Thanks and hope to see you and yours there. Happy Geotrails to all.
