Geocache Description:

A Flash Mob Gathering of Geocachers. Only 15 minutes long!

Flash Mob Cache Event aka A Flash Cache Event

We would like to host a caching event to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.

This event, however, will be quite unique, creative, be the first of it's kind (as far as we know of) and might be the fore-runner of a new type of event.

You're heard of mega-events? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. Flash mobs have gathered for other reasons ( (visit link) ) but never before for geocaching. Come be part of this historic event!

The event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one second longer.

The event will begin precisely at 12:00 pm on Sunday, May 20th. This is in an open public space, near Antlers Park in Lakeville. The event will be highly organized and facilitated by volunteers. A minute-by-minute itinerary will be posted here 2 weeks prior to the event.

At exactly 12:00 pm (as determined by the GPS clock) I, your host, will place a bucket full of nice, new swag at the coordinates. One volunteer will hand out "log sheets". Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become a log book), to qualify for attendance and drop them in a designated collection box. Bring a pen. Participants may trade swag via the swag bucket at any time. We encourage you to bring nice swag to trade. Another volunteer will hand out nametags and markers.

IMPORTANT: If you get there before 12 PM, mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of nowhere so that muggles will not know what is going on.

Itinerary

12:00 - A bucket of swag and a small CD player will be placed on the ground at the coordinates to signal the start. Quickly gather around. Trade swag from the bucket. Bring nice swag to trade.

12:01 - You will be handed an individual log sheet to sign (bring a pen) and drop in a special box. The sheets will we used for a raffle and will later become the log book. Simultaneously, participants will mingle, share stories, brag, trade swag, and CITO the area.

If muggles are curious about the event we will have a handout that explains geocaching.

12:08 - Chocolate kisses distributed as the official "meal."

12:10 - Group photo on west side of viewing area facing the east. Get there FAST and listen to the photographer for directions.

12:12 - Raffle for special prizes. (Donations wanted)

12:14 - One minute warning. Prep to leave but don't "look" like your are prepping. (You might want to "secretly" organize where you will re-form after dispersal.)

12:15 - Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area as quickly as you gathered. Act like nothing happened. Meet elsewhere if desired. The log sheet collection box will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace. Although participants are welcome to get together for brunch or geocaching after the event, the event will officially be over at 12:15.

At precisely 12:15 pm the bucket, and the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace. Events that happen after 12:15:01 do not count as part of THIS event.

Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the event.

We hope to gather a "good showing" of cachers at this event. Tell your friends and help promote the event.

Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING. Parking can be difficult to find. If you can't find parking you might miss the event!

Note: Although participants are welcome to get together for brunch after the event. The event will officially be over at 12:15. At brunch, participants may chat, meet, eat and plan for a day of caching in or near Lakeville.

I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?"

This event is one of a series of flash mobs that are being synchronized to happen all at the same time across the country.
