Track and Field Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bobfireman: The final was in a rather secluded area when it was placed, but development of the park has increased traffic through the area, and it's been muggled, with a high probability of being muggled again. I'm archiving so the area can be opened for another cache.

Geocache Description:

A puzzle that will require you to follow a track, pay attention and take notes.

You can do this cache one of two ways...you can either download a .gpx file (see below) and follow the track on your GPSr OR you can follow turn-by-turn instructions.  No matter which you choose, pay attention, take notes and fill-in the blanks below to find the final.

The coordinates are NOT the location of the cache, but are the starting point. The coordinates are for a parking lot that is adjacent to the start point, which is marked as "Mile 1".
If you want to do this cache by following a track with your GPSr  you'll need to download this gpx file to your GPSr and go to the coordinates listed on this page.  Then, follow the track that's loaded into your GPSr.

If you want to do this cache by following directions:

  1. Park anywhere in the parking lot that is near the above coordinates.
  2. Go to the nearby trail.  Start at "Mile 1".
  3. Follow the trail south.
  4. When the trail forks, go right and follow it around the loop to the bridge.
  5. Cross the bridge, and go south and uphill to the little park.
  6. Go up either the ramp or steps up to West View Pl. and Boulder Crescent Ave.
  7. Walk on the LEFT HAND SIDE of Boulder Crescent Street, around to Cascade Ave.
  8. Walk north a short distance to the next street and go left.
  9. Walk west to the end.
  10. Walk north through the parking lot to the next street.
  11. Go east to the next street and WITHOUT CROSSING THE STREET, turn north.
  12. Go north to the very next street.
  13. WITHOUT CROSSING THE STREET, turn left.
  14. I hope you took notes!

As you follow the track or directions, look for the answers to the following questions. They are in the order that you will encounter them.

1. What is the number on the white label on the "in ground" power vault? A__ B__ C__ D__ E__ F__
2. What is the number on the pool house? G__ H__ I__
3. What is the distance to the right field foul pole? J__ K__ L__
4. What is the closing time of the park on November 2nd? M__
5. What is the number on the first fire hydrant you see after continuing past clue #4? N__
6. What are the numbers on the fire hydrant nearest the south east corner of the "506" house with purple trim? O__ P__ Q__
7. What are the numbers on the pole nearest to where Beverly meets Will? R__ S__ T__ U__ V__ W__

The final is located at: N38 (F) (P+N). (G+H+J) (B+C) (F)
                                    W104 (O) (U). (W+S+Q) (M) (K)

You cannot drive this cache. You will either have to bike or hike it. The track will take you on a dirt trail, side walk and through a parking lot.

The final is a small container with enough room for a log book and a writing instrument. BYOP just in case one is missing. When you log the find, indicate whether you did it by using the GPX file or followed the "turn-by-turn" directions.

And finally, thanks to the Hikerron for planting the seed that gave me the idea to create this cache.
