Geocache Description:

This is one of a set of caches devised and hidden to complement the “Celebrate the Summer Solstice with the Laird” event. They all have themes associated with various pagan rituals and beliefs that we have researched. We are not pagans so reality and fiction may have become blended and all themes and their complementary locations are subject to “cachers licence”

Lord of sun and lady moon
Bright at night and bright at noon
See my offering, hear my call
Lord and lady guard us all.

Sky god an, earth goddess ki
All do honor unto thee
Spread your seed upon the ground
Bring forth life fecund and round

Holy queen of living things
She whose bloom the summer brings
Bless us lady give us cheer
As we wander through the year
Royal shepherd, mountain king
Lofty bull of whom we sing
Fill our bowls with waters sweet
Spread the seeds of corn and wheat

Bless our lips and bless our breast
Guide us gently to our rest
Bless our sheep and bless our corn
Ease our grief when we must mourn

Sing the song and join the rite
Praise the day and bless the night
Thank the gods for what they bear
Earth and water, fire and air.

[Aridu Based On The Hymn To Ishtar From Acadia]

The tilt and spin of planet Earth and its relationship with the star we call the sun is responsible for the seasons, the fluctuations in daylight and night time, the tides and the weather.
The summer solstice occurs when these things come together to give us the longest period of daylight, before the days draw in and winter descends. This is the time when farmers take a break between sowing their crops and harvesting them, and feasts and rituals are held to ensure a good harvest and enough food to get through the winter. While midsummer celebrations venerate the sun, the earth is not entirely forgotten, as this is the traditional time for marriage or handfasting to occur, an event that is associated with the fertility of the earth.

In some Pagan religions the five pointed Pentacle represents earth, air, fire, water, and spirit -- the five factors needed to sustain life.
The circle symbolises eternity and infinity, the cycles of life and nature.

The cache is a traditional cache containing a cache logbook and the usual small array of goodies.

There is offroad parking near the footpath, the parking area gets very muddy in wet weather and is sometimes subject to flytipping, the area was clean & dry when cache was placed.

We have put a modern twist to this loacation by placing it within a stones throw of Dawmill Colliery where the "fruits of the earth" are harvested from deep inside the earth from between 500 and 1000 meters down where the 'Warwickshire Thick' coal seam is found. Shafts run for miles in all directions even underneath the M6, you may remember the M6 bumps between J3 & J4, they were caused by subsidence from Dawmill. The mine produces around 3 million tonnes of coal per year.

The area near the cache loaction may get flooded in wet weather/winter hence the 'wading' attribute please take care.
