Geocache Description:

This cache is located in Allegany State Park. To access it, you will need to turn off Highway 280 onto Wolf Run Road at N42 02.397 W078 53.439. It is entered outside the park (about 1 1/2 miles south of the Quaker Entrance)

Please park at N42 01. 363 W078 53.343 If you try to park closer to the cache and bushwhack, you will come across a beaver pond and not be able to cross it. Please use the parking coordinates. There is a “Seasonal Limited Use Highway” sign near the parking coords and path entrance. When you are ready to go, follow the path until you come to N42 01.602 W078 53.398 You may be able to go a little further on this road, however, at times the water is too high so this is the best place to turn. We have wanted to place a cache in ASP for at least a year, but have had some difficulty deciding where. We enlisted the assistance of Monarch due to his expertise of the area and this made things difficult…every area he described was great! Kickin’ wanted to place a cache in each area. Our first ASP cache, though, will be placed here as he said it is one of his favorite areas.

There was a family that used to live in this area. You will find remains of the foundation shown above at N42 01.659 W078 53.424 It is unclear if this is the foundation of a house or a possible sawmill that was suspected to be in the area many years ago. Just past this foundation you will find a dried up gully which some people believe used to transport the logs for the sawmill. If you look back at the area you just crossed, you will see that it appears flat with no trees, and there are traces of possibly more foundations in the flat, open areas. Continue toward the cache area and you will find a something not expected here in the middle of nowhere.

We would like to thank ASP for allowing us to place this. Please be respectful of the area, CITO as needed and follow park rules. Thanks too to Ciderman for the container for this Fray D. Kat.
