This series was supposed to focus on Wigan, I decided though I
didn't want my hometown missing out on the fun and I found a
location with a pie connection.
The cache is placed in Queens Park near Bolton town centre. One
of the landmarks in Queens Park is known as the pie crust because
(as you might have guessed) it looks like a pie.
To reduce muggling risk the cache is not actually at the pie
crust but if you look up the hill from the cache location then you
will see it. The Pie Crust's claim to fame was that it was used as
a location in the 1970 film
Spring and Port Wine staring James Mason.
Queens park is beautiful and just down the hill from the cache
site is a lovely old bridge across the River Croal. Just slightly
downstream from here the Croal enters a series of underground
culverts and pops up in a couple of places in the town center
before heading underground again. There are a group
of enthusiasts who like to go wandering in these river tunnels,
and people think caching is a strange hobby!
