Geocache Description:

The cache is located in the Alafia River Corridor Nature Preserve. The trail head is located at the end of Old Welcome Road, approximately one mile south from the intersection of SR 39 and Hwy 640 (Lithia Pinecrest Road). Hours for the preserve are from sunrise to sunset. Leashed dogs are welcomed. Parking is located at N27 49.602 W82 07.972

You can find information about this preserve and a map of  the trails by clicking on this link. The trails are on page 4. Page 2 are the trails for a preserve just a couple of miles north of this preserve.

There are two loop trails in the preserve area. Once you park you can grab a small map at the trailhead to show you the different trails. This cache is hidden along the trail to the East. As soon as you cross through the horse gap turn to the left and stay to the left as the trail splits. I see deer along this trail regularly. Ther trail is well marked with horse trail signs and is about a 4 mile walk around the loop. While searching for this cache you will pass through pine flatwoods, dry prairie, hardwood hammocks and wetlands. Depending on water levels you may have one or more water crossings. Bring water shoes if you don't want to get your hiking boots wet. There are several other caches along this trail so make sure you search for them as well. This cache is dedicated to a good friend of mine,Catfish308, who introduced me to this wonderful and addictive sport of geocaching. He and I both prefer to be in the woods when we are geocaching so I am placing this cache in honor of our great friendship and to say thanks for all of the caching we do together. Those that geocache with me know that I like to bushwhack as often as I can. I guess something's wrong with my GPS, it is always pointing in a straight line to the next cache so I want to follow it and not the trail. :) This one is not a terrible bushwhack but it might be rough in shorts. It's only 2/10th of a mile from the trail but worth the walk. I decided to get off the beaten path today and picked this spot to enjoy some shade. You are very close to several acres of wild blackberries. I did not have to walk through them to get to this site but if you're not careful you might. They would make a wonderful snack if they are ripe.
