Geocache Description:

A short and easy walk brings you to a very unusual location.

St Robert of Knaresborough lived in a cave on nearby Abbey Road. In 1252, Pope Innocent IV sanctioned a monastery to be built on his grave and this was built by the Trinitarian Friars. The water supply for the Abbey came from the Aspin (small pond) which is close to the cache. Nothing now remains of the Abbey apart from local street names; e.g. Abbey Crags Way, Abbott’s Way and references to other Yorkshire abbeys such as Rievaulx Avenue, Fountains Avenue, etc. PLEASE BE AWARE THE ASPIN IS AN UNFENCED POND CLOSE TO THE CACHE. TAKE CARE WITH GEO-KIDS! As the cache has been muggled twice, I have decided to go smaller, more discreet. It may change again!
