Red's Revenge Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

CTReviewer: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting. I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
CTReviewer

Geocache Description:

This multi (we won’t tell you how many stages there are) involves some extremely challenging hides and the enviable or venerable “micro in the woods”. You should plan on at least 4 hours to complete the series. The hike is not difficult but quite long however, about 3 and a half miles, it will take you in a complete loop nearly back to your starting point. We suggest you park at the listed coordinates as a starting point.

Our team dedicated this multi-cache after successfully completing “Hail to Hale” and thinking we had to get back in some way at the cachers who dreamed up that most challenging cache! Hence the REVENGE portion of the cache name. This is truly meant for the experienced cacher who has hidden other devious caches. All stages are devious micros except for the final, which is a well stocked ammo can. The Kollar Wildlife Management Area was purchased by the DEP in 1986 from Vladimir “Red” M. Kollar, who devoted his whole life to assembling and preserving one of the largest blocks of forest in the area. Mr. Kollar’s love of the land and desire for preservation led him to make a substantial economic sacrifice by selling to the DEP instead of accepting offers from developers for ten times more than he received for the purchase. His reward was to know that the area would always be used for wildlife conservation, forestry and recreation. The area was officially dedicated and named in Mr. Kollar’s memory on June 28, 1995. The Kollar WMA has been actively managed with a featured species approach to provide optimum habitat conditions for maximum ruffed grouse populations. This wildlife area has been cooperatively managed with partial funding from the Ruffed Grouse Society, commercial firewood harvests and assistance from the DEP Forestry Division. You will see a lot of this evidence as you hike into various sections. The area is open to all types of public hunting and receives the most hunting use during the fall months from mid- October through mid-December. Most hunters are required to wear orange clothing to increase their visibility to others. Cachers are encouraged to do the same. You may also encounter hunters in full camouflage during the spring turkey season in May. We have kept all stages of this cache reasonably close to the trails, so as not to disturb hunters in the area. We hope you enjoy the adventure. Feel free to contact us if you need additional help. We would also be interested in your evaluation of our ratings for this cache in terms of difficulty. If you have ever done “Hail to Hale” you will know what a real 4-star is, although we are not quite certain that our cache will quite measure up to those high standards!! A few final notes. The area is closed at sunset and if you bring a dog, keep it on a leash. If you bring a fishing pole, make sure it is a fly rod only as the regulations require catch and release only on the section of the Willimantic River near where you will be hiking. None of the stages require any disruption of natural features such as stone walls and we would never hide a cache in such a place. Leave no trace!
