Flatwoods Park Well House
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
This is the oldest active physical cache in Hillsborough County, FL. Cache is located not far off the Flatwoods Recreational Loop Trail. This can be accessed by several trailheads. Including, Flatwoods Trailhead on Bruce B. Downs, Flatwoods Trailhead on Morris Bridge and the shortest distance will be from Trout Creek. You can hike it, bike it or run to it. :-) I've been informed that this is the oldest active cache in Hillsborough County,.
Welcome to an excellent example of reclaimed land use. The Flatwoods Park is still an active pumping ground for Hillsborough County water, however a large park and 7.1 mile paved bike/blade/hike trail has been set up along the road that originally was used to connect the various well heads/pumping stations. If you're a hiker or mountain biker? I'd suggest starting at Trout Creek and make your way to the "Main" Offroad Trail System that is over the dam. The cache is located approximately 2 miles from the parking lot. You can travel along the shell road or take the trail system, which is much more scenic. If you're riding around the paved loop in Flatwoods, the cache is located just off the loop down one of the service roads.
