Geocache Description:

The hunt for this cache will take you on a circular walk around the villages of Ashbury and Kingstone Winslow. You are given 5 waypoints to visit. Between each pair of waypoints you will have to find the answers to a number of clues.

The ancient village of Ashbury was recorded as Eissesberie in the Domesday Book of 1086 when it belonged to Glastonbury Abbey. The present day church and Upper and Lower Mill occupy sites recorded 900 years ago. The beautiful medieval manor house was the guest house for visitors travelling between Glastonbury and Canterbury and there was a stone circle in the field behind the church. In the seventeenth century Ashbury became part of the estate belonging to the Craven family who owned nearby Ashdown House.

The hamlet of Kingston Winslow was originally a farm and the name means "the farm by Wyne's burial mound." Although the original site of Wyne's burial is now lost, Kingston Winslow does have a tiny graveyard belonging to non-conformist chapel that was set up in the nineteenth century. Part of the chapel was demolished and the rest converted into a cottage.

Park along the road by the  Rose & Crown. If you plan to finish up in the pub you can use their car park.
