Do you remember May 1967? That year brought:
- mini skirts
- the first Super Bowl (GB Packers defeat the KC Chiefs)
- the first Earth Day was observed (beginning of the Green
movement)
- the first episode of Sesame Street was broadcast
- Apollo I was destroyed by fire on the launch pad killing Gus
Grissom, Edward White and Roger Chaffee.
- LBJ in Washington and 500,000 US troops in Vietnam
- popular movies were “To Sir With Love”, “Bonnie and Clyde”,
“Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner”, “Cool Hand Luke”
- hippies and the Summer of Love
- The Beatles and Rolling Stones on “The Ed Sullivan Show” and
The Doors getting banned from the same show for not changing the
line “girl, you couldn’t get much higher” from “Light My Fire”
- NO -- cell phones, personal computers, mp3 players (12 years
before the 1st Sony Walkman), PDA’s, digital cameras, video games,
Starbucks, Microsoft, Walmart outside of Arkansas and ---
- NO GEOCACHING!!
For us, May 1967 brought our first date --- to the Junior/Senior
Prom at Poland Seminary High School. (You will pass what was the
high school at that time on your way to this cache on College
Street.) White lace dress, white dinner jacket, pink rose corsage,
the gym decorated as King Arthur’s Court complete with a
dragon!
40 Years Later, almost to the day, we find ourselves in the
Poland Woods (more formally known as the Poland Municipal Forest),
right down the street from the site of our first date … geocaching!
Blue jeans, hiking boots, poison ivy, muddy "dawgs" and surrounded
by wildflowers! Married with children and grandchildren! Seems like
a good time and place to hide a cache!
Hope you enjoy seeking this cache as much as we did reminiscing
and hiding the cache.
Where were you 40 years ago?
