Geocache Description:

This cache is located at Silver Lake. It's not a hard hike but it dosen't have a good trail to get to the cache. You will be hiking over granite slabs and a short walk through the forest. No steep hills to climb. However figuring out the best way to get to the cache could be a challenge.
Your looking for a small ammo can.

First let me tell the easiest way to get here. Take Kit Carson Rd off the highway and follow it around the lake. You will come to a Y in the road, you want to go left following the signs that say Boy Scout Camp another left. At the end of the road you will see a yellow gate park here. Do (GC134H1) before you do this one it will get you to the trail. If you get to the trailhead for Granite Lake you went to far. This trail was the trail to the waterfront. We called it because it leads to the lake. It isn't maintained any more since they closed the camp (the idiot professional scouters in Mt Diablo Council couldn’t figure out how to maintain all the camps they had so they just closed it.)

This area was Mostly used by the Camp Silverado Boy Scouts.
It was a study area for Nature and Environmental Science Merit Badges, and the Order of the Arrow used to have ceremonies out here. The lake is fed from snowmelt no water really runs into it. So it’s not good for swimming in. It is a nice place to have lunch. I spent many hours here just watching things and writing down what I saw. I could tell lots of stories about this place but it would take a book.

I’ll tell one though, the military would let us borrow some of their men sometimes for a week. Well we got a marine who was teaching Riffle and Shot gun merit badge. every week of camp there was a staff hunt. Just before dark this Marine so he says spent 1-2 hrs in this pond underwater breathing thru a straw. Thats why they call them Crazy Marines.

I left a Black Jeep 4X4 tb, A Motorgrrl pin, a where’s George Dollar a Log book/pencil bunch of geo swag and an UnActivated Cache Critters Geo Coin I picked up At the GeocoinFest
When hiking here from the BSA camp follow the trail to this waypoint and turn left:
N38 39.771
W120 06.349
You can kind of see a trail

If you like climbing rocks there are some small caves on the east side.

Happy caching!
