Geocache Description:

TOSS HA’PENNY

Are you up for it?

A very pleasant stroll along part of the CALDER VALLEY GREENWAY / CYCLE ROUTE 66.

But one with a sting in the tail.

Due to parking restrictions, you MUST park your car at the suggested parking place, just over Ha’penny Bridge, Battyeford, Mirfield. From here you will see many canal narrowboats moored up in the marina.

Ha’penny Bridge is so named because you had to pay a ha’penny toll charge to cross the old bridge. Prior to a bridge being built here, there used to be a small ferry boat operating from what was euphemistically called – Battyeford Sands. Look closely over the river and you can still see the stone steps leading down to the waters edge.

Use your GPSr and follow the given coordinates to find the first cache, which is a film can containing the coordinates for the final cache. Please take care when walking along the road, particularly if you have children as it is narrow and twisting for the first 250 metres.

Now here is the sting in the tail.

At the first cache, you will be given TWO sets of coordinates to choose from.

One leads you to the FINAL CACHE, the other is a red herring and leads you to a DUMMY CACHE.

Choosing the correct one means a return walk of 1.4 Km. Choose the wrong one and you will have to walk 2.8 Km. But the walk in either direction is very pleasant and may stimulate you into walking the whole length of this Greenway.

Eanie, Meanie, Minie, Mo. Toss a coin and away you go.

Remember. You must get the Final Cache and sign the Log Book to register it as a find.

ENJOY THE WALK !

AND FINALLY, WHEN POSTING YOUR LOG, PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ANY CLUES AS TO WHICH COORDINATE IS THE CORRECT ONE. ANY SPOILERS WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DELETED.

GOOD LUCK !
