Geocache Description:

FAREWELL FREEDOM! WELL, Looks like another example of big goverment taking over local jurisdictions. They GRABBED this city park out from under our previously legal cache! Beware!! Please boycott the silly VIRTUAL CACHES they have placed nearby, Virtual caches are no longer supported by geocaching.com as you well know, which is why they are not listed here.

***** Consider any "Park Rangers" you may see in the area as MUGGLES. They DO NOT have jurisdiction over the physical location of the cache which is located in this adjacent city maintained park area. The cache is NOT LOCATED BEYOND THE METAL GATE! This is why you DO NOT have to pay to park close to the cache, but DO have to pay to park past the nearby gate. They may ask you to remove it (apparently because they are jealous that it gets more traffic than their own caches nearby :) Tell them to contact Fort Collins, under whose authority the cache was placed on their own controlled land, if they think they have any legally valid complaints. *****

The "Cache La Poudre River" flows very near this cache. The river's name means "Hiding Place of Powder." French fur trappers in the 1820's allegedly used the river banks to bury large amounts of gunpowder (poudre) in a hiding place (cache) to lighten their load when caught by a tremendous snowstorm. Maybe they even hid some right where the cache is.

As we discovered initially, at least with our GPS, coords have proven to be quite unstable right at the cache location apparently due to the terrain, so you may need to watch readings as you approach and then extrapolate. The clues should help a lot. If anyone manages to come up with more precise and stable coords we'll gladly update them.

L was visiting with JimCColorado for their son's HS graduation and Memorial Day weekend and decided to place this cache. Nice place for a picnic with the river flowing by and there are lovely expansive overlooks nearby of the valley and Roosevelt National Forest off to the South and West.

This is the third of our series of LVLG alien themed caches featuring our alien mascots. It's been initially loaded with all kinds of "Alien" swag, a log and is the starting point of one of our LVLG, Area 51, alien Travel Bugs (TB11QGQ-check his story). It is inside a very unique foot long container designed, built and decorated from readily available parts in surprisingly little time, and has proven to be exceedingly durable and watertight over 2 winters. Be sure to let me know ASAP of any deterioration or leakage you may notice.
Be sure to visit our other numbered LVLG caches in Southern CA and Southern NV, Maui and Western PA by searching on LVLG.
