Geocache Description:

The Legend of Falling Rock #2

The Legend of Falling Rock is an age old tale that one must read again. As in The Legend of Falling Rock #1 Three area Indian Tribes held an annual race to see which tribe had the strongest and fastest brave. The winner of the race was bestowed with gifts and allowed to marry the Chief’s beautiful daughter Cool Waters. On the day of the race the oldest woman in the tribe was given the honor of starting the contest. She was brought to the starting line and given a gun to fire in the air. If the old woman died while shooting the gun, the tribes would have good hunts for the upcoming year.

The three braves that were chosen to run the race was Antelope Dance, Running Elk and Fallen Rock. The chief’s daughter Cool Waters had already took a liking to Fallen Rock and had given him magical moccasins that the medicine man had made. The moccasins were suppose to make the wearer the fastest runner in all of the land. On the night before the race, Cool Waters slipped into the medicine man’s teepee and placed extra magical ingredients into the mixture in order to make sure the moccasins would be the fastest. On the day of the race, all of the braves lined up and the oldest woman was given the gun to start the race. She pulled the trigger with a loud, “Bang!“ signaling the braves to start their journey. As the three braves began the race, the old woman fell over dead from the concussion of the gun. All of the Indians rejoiced knowing that hunting would be good for the next year. The three braves ran neck to neck for three days straight, over mountains, through meadows, across rivers, through snow, desert and blinding rain. Fallen rock began to think that the moccasins were not magical but suddenly he felt something strange going on with his feet. Faster he ran and soon he began to overtake Antelope Dance and Running Elk. It was no time until Fallen Rock was miles ahead of the other two braves. Faster and faster he ran until the trees beside of him became nothing but a blur. Going over the finish line one day before the other two braves, the Indian tribes rejoiced, calling Fallen Rock’s name in a chant that only Indians could sing. But something happened after Fallen Rock crossed the finish line. He could not stop! He kept running and running and running. Fallen Rock Could Not Stop! He soon crossed out of his own tribes territory into other states, then into other lands that were unnamed. Across the entire country he ran, zig zagging here and there, unable to stop running. Years came and went and Fallen Rock still ran. Soon everyone knew of Fallen Rock’s journeys and people began to place signs out for him and others to read, warning them of Fallen Rocks frequent journeys into the area. Whenever you are traveling on our country’s roads and byways, be sure to look for a sign that says “Fallen Rock Zone”. If you are lucky, you may see Fallen Rock himself still running across the lands.
