Geocache Description:

A nice quick easy cache that commemorates the 10th MTN Division of World War II.

No hard puzzle to solve here. No extra sneaky hide either.

This cache commemorates the hardy men of the World War II 10th MTN Division. The unit was created during WWII in order to counteract the incredible success of the German Edelweiss Troops and the Italian Alpinis. Trained in ice and rock climbing, skiing and how to survive in extreme mountainous and weather conditions, these brave men are most famous for the attack on Belevedere Mtn in Italy in February of 1945. They took a route that was so perilous and dangerous that the enemy left it undefended. They were able to initially capture the position with only one casualty the surprise was so complete. It was much harder to hold but they did. If you would like to learn more about the infamous 10th MTN Division you may go to this website:
(visit link)

They do a much better job of telling about themselves than I ever could.

Many of you may have heard of Vermont's Mountain Battalion and now Vermont's 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain). These two units continue the art of Mountain Warfare started by the 10th MTN Div. They are the only true Mountain soldiers in the US Army. Of course having belonged to the Mountain Battalion and 86th IBCT for about 12 years cumulative I am quite partial to the unit.

So go visit the cache, learn a little about the 10th. I had intended to also give the coordinates for a monument to the soldiers of the 10th on the other end of the highway but forgot to get the coordinates on the way by. I will do that next time.
