Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the middle of Somogy county in Hungary. There is a small stream called Boronka, which flows into the lake Balaton (north from here). But in the ancient ages, the river Duna (the Danube) flew here, and the soil now is sand, which is the deposit of the ancient Danube. There is a big, beautiful natural area here, more than 8000 hectares. Some small lakes were formed by damming the Boronka up. On one of the lakes, a little hut was built, for studying the rich animal world (especially the birds). The cache is hidden in a trunk of a tree on the shore of the lake. You can reach this area from south, from the town called Nagybajom. It lies along the road 61. At the coordinates N 46° 23.505' E 17° 30.712' turn to north and go on the Kossuth street to N-NW. After a time, you will reach the edge of Nagybajom. Go further. When you reach the coordinates N 46° 24.993' E 17° 29.172', turn a bit left, and go on the sandy path. You can drive in with car, but if you would like to feel the atmosphere of the area, it is recommended to park down here and go on foot. You must go only some km-s now, to the coordinates N 46° 26.071' E 17° 27.940'. Then turn left, and park down at the coords N 46° 26.062' E 17° 27.706'. A little path leads from here to the lake. There are some interesting things about Nagybajom and this area. First: Nagybajom is called "The European Village For White Storks in Hungary". (now it is not a village, it is a town, but the title wasn't changed). I think I don't need to explain this title. Second: In the 2nd World War, there were large battles in this area. One of the main battle-fronts, the Margaret-line (Margit-vonal) run here. The Soviets and the Germans fought here for months. There was a large minefield in the area, and some mines are found nowadays too here! So be careful, if you turn off the roads and paths :)
