THERE IS NO GEOCACHE HIDDEN IN THIS CEMETERY.
This first stage of this two-stage cache will take you to the beautiful Marion National Cemetery where you will find a Civil War monument and collect information leading you to the cache which is placed outside the cemetery. The cemetery's hours are 7 AM to 6 PM daily.
The monument you are seeking is named "The 2nd Minnesota Regiment of Infantry" and is a replica of a sculpture at the Chicamauga battlefield near Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Once you locate the monument, find the date Congress approved placing the Soldiers’ Home in Grant County and use the answer to complete the coordinates for the cache.
N 40.AA.BBB
W 085.38.CCC
AA = number of letters in the name of the month Congress approved the placement + 28
BBB = the day of the month Congress acted + 105
CCC = last two digits of the year Congress acted + 283
The final coordinates will lead you to another cemetery where the physical cache is hidden. The container is not on or near a grave. Cemetery hours are dawn to dusk.
The cache is a camouflaged bottle cap container with room for a log and small trinkets. You will need to provide your own pen or pencil. Please replace the items used to secure the container.
