This portion of the Long Trail follows the West Settlement Rd
south. The trail is marked by white rectangular blazes.
During the summer months you can park at N44 38.089 W72 43.570
It is here where you'll find a gate preventing further automobile
access. The distance to the cache and is about 1.5 miles and the
elevation increases by about 650 feet. Basically it's all
moderately up hill on the way in and down hill on the way back
out!
During the winter months the recommended parking is back at the
parking lot on Route 15 at N44 38.700 W72 43.666. From here follow
the long trail south across Rt 15 until you get to West Settlement
Rd, then proceed south up this road to the first stage. This will
add approximately 3 miles to your journey round trip. You may be
able to find other parking on West Settlement Rd a little closer,
but I'll leave that up to you.
The cache itself is three stages:
The first stage is a simple hanging micro.
The second stage is a virtual. When you get to this point follow
these simple instructions to get the coordinates for the final.
*** For North coord: Number of A's on the VAST sign. Multiply
this number by 100 and then add 128. Subtract this new number from
the decimal minutes of this stage. Remember you may have to borrow,
so be careful with your math!
*** For West coord: Number of L's on the same sign. Multiply
this number by 100 and then add 14. Add this new number to the
decimal minutes of this stage.
The final is your standard 30 cal ammo can. When you open the
log book look for a note containing the stage 1 coordinates for
your return trip --
