Geocache Description:

Parking for this cache is at the Pennsylvania State Game Lands 227 lot on TR1018/1015 (Taggartsville Road) on your way to Tuscarora State Park. Hike the Game Lands "road" all the way to "Paradise Hole." As a good gesture, please C.I.T.O. along your way.

PARADISE HOLE, TAMAQUA, PA

Paradise Hole is a beautiful, remote location along the Little Schuylkill River. It is a spot where locals fish, swim and picnic. My wife has told me of this spot for many years, and finally, today, she took me and our children there. I am told that at one point there was a long rope swing from the top of the cliff and that people jumped from the top of the cliff into the water.

Your hike is along a trail almost the whole way, with a steep 150' ascent to the cache at the end. You will need to ford the Little Schuylkill River. Choose your crossing point carefully, and avoid doing so when flooding is a threat. I would suggest crossing to the left of the swimming hole.

You are looking for a large, heavy plastic, ammo container (see photo below). I hid the container in a spot high enough above flood levels and, hopefully, where it will not be found by non-cachers. I only had ~70' GPSr accuracy when I placed the cache due to the terrain and the heavy tree cover. Thus, the difficulty rating. So, I am happy to have you post your coordinates and accuracy in your logs.

There are lots of interesting spots to explore here! Please be mindful that this is a habitat for bear, coyote, rattlesnakes and copperheads. When I placed the cache, I found a small non-venomous, northern ringneck snake. And, don't forget to bring your bait and tackle, as these are approved trout waters.

NOTE: This cache is on Pennsylvania State Game Lands. From November 15 through December 15, except Sundays, you are required to "wear a minimum of 250 square inches of daylight fluorescent orange-colored material on the head, chest and back combined or, in lieu thereof, a hat of the same colored material. The material shall be worn so it is visible in a 360° arc". Also, please refrain from "swimming" at Paradise Hole, it is not permitted on Pennsylvania State Game Lands.
